2026 STUDENT ART CALENDAR CONTEST
Ventura County Waterworks District service area students (K-12) are invited to create water-themed original artwork for Metropolitan Water District 2027 calendar. Met’s theme for the 2027 calendar is “Being Water Wise it…” This means wise and efficient water use inside and outside of the home, at school, in the community, in business and industry, in agriculture, and in recreation. The importance of clean and reliable water to public health has been made even more clear over the past few years. This theme of water conservation and stewardship should be reflected in the artwork
The winning artwork will be entered into a regional art contest hosted by Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) that is open to all water agencies in southern California. MWD will choose 36 poster designs to feature in the 2027 Student Art Calendar. Winners of MWD’s contest will be announced in winter and recognized at a special event in early December.
Artwork must:
- use the following: digital art, crayons, pencils, watercolors, paints, markers, ink, pastels, chalk, cut paper or fabric; bold, bright colors preferred
- be 12″x18″ or 8.5″x11″ in size, designed on white poster board or white drawing paper
- be designed horizontally (landscaped)
- Artwork on 12″ x 18″ paper must have a 1″ white or blank border on ALL four sides
- keep message brief, if text is included; does not require the words of the theme to be included
- have correct spelling and punctuation (art with misspellings will be disqualified)
- be original; no traced images, trademarked, or copywritten material (i.e. cartoon characters, logos, advertising taglines, etc.)
- include the 2027 Student Information Card and Student Artwork Rights / Parent Approval Form (Download a Copy Here)
There are four ways to submit artwork:
- Student Card, Parent Approval Form and Artwork can be submitted below. (The completed Student Card and Parent Approval Form must be included along with the artwork.)
- Artwork should be scanned with the image setting of 300 dpi (dots per inch), set to TIFF (Tag Image File Format). Files must have a minimum resolution of 240 pixels per inch (240 ppi) or 5 megapixels (5 MP) in landscape format.
- By email, please send scan artwork and the 2027 Student Information Card, Parent Approval Form and Student Artwork Rights / Parent Approval Form to wsadmin@venturacounty.gov

The deadline to submit artwork is May 1, 2026.
Art Selection Process
- Ventura County Waterworks District will select up to 15 artworks that will be submitted to Metropolitan Water District for consideration and inclusion into the 2027 Student Art Calendar.
