The project will implement the State mandated monitoring requirements of the 2021 Regional Stormwater Permit (Order R4-2021-0105) by installing and operating two water quality and flow monitoring stations in the Ventura County portion of the Malibu Creek Watershed. The stations will collect information on water quality and flow during wet and dry weather in the receiving water and during wet weather at the major storm drain outfall.
Both stations will be located in Oak Park on Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District (RSRPD) Wistful Vista Preserve property. One station will monitor Lindero Creek (ME-LC), and the other will monitor a major storm drain outfall that discharges to Lindero Creek (MO-OKP).
Each station will include a small enclosure containing an automated water sampler, flow measurement equipment, a small refrigerator to keep collected samples cool, and telemetry equipment that will transmit monitoring data to the Watershed Protection District. A conduit will connect the equipment to the low-flow channel where water samples will be collected and flow will be measured.
The enclosures will be constructed of painted fiberglass and insulated with foam. They will be approximately five feet tall and have a footprint of approximately 20 square feet. The enclosures will be mounted on a small precast concrete pad or pavers, approximately 25 square feet in area, placed directly on the soil surface. Site preparation will consist of removing plant debris and leveling the area by hand. One water-depth gauge, consisting of approximately three-foot-tall steel rulers, will also be installed at each station.
The stations will be battery powered and will not require installation of electrical power lines.
Installation
The monitoring stations will be installed in Fall 2026. Installation of each station is expected to take approximately three – five days. Work will include hand clearing and leveling of the site, placement of the concrete pad or pavers, mounting the enclosure, installation of the monitoring equipment, battery, wiring and sample lines, and installation of the conduit and flow measurement equipment.
No heavy equipment will be used during installation.
